Our Dream
In June 2020 Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation (KNAC) and Jamukurnu Yapalikurnu Aboriginal Corporation (JYAC), supported by Newman Futures, came together to develop the Ngaa Ngayunkurnu Kapukurri.
The This Is Our Dream Cultural Compact, maps a new pathway of mutual respect for the town. It is a vision for upholding Aboriginal culture and traditions in Newman catalysing collaboration, unity, understanding and respect of Aboriginal values and encouraging local businesses and institutions to commit to more culturally responsive approaches

Newman Futures is a partnership project between BHP, the Shire of East Pilbara and the Department of Communities that brings stakeholders and community together to build a diverse and sustainable economy that is inclusive to all.
Working with the Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation (KNAC) and Jamukurnu Yapalikurnu Aboriginal Corporation (JYAC) we’ve come together to develop the Ngaa Ngayunkurnu Kapukurri – This Is Our Dream Cultural Compact.

Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation
Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation (KNAC) is the Native Title representative group for the Nyiyaparli People, the Traditional Owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the East Pilbara region, including the township of Newman, Western Australia.
Jamukurnu-Yapalikurnu Aboriginal Corporation (JYAC)
Jamukurnu-Yapalikurnu Aboriginal Corporation (JYAC) (formerly WDLAC) represents Martu people and their lands covering 150,000 square kilometres of the Western Desert. Martu lands include the Percival Lakes, Kumpupintil Lake, large parts of the Canning Stock Route and Karlamilyi National Park. About 5,000 Martu live across the Western Desert, Pilbara and Kimberley: in the on-country towns of Kunawarritji, Punmu and Parnngurr as well as in Jigalong, Newman, Nullagine, Warralong-Strelley, Wiluna, Hedland, Bidyadanga and the Fitzroy Valley and East Kimberley.
